On Tuesday afternoon Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports tweeted:
"Sources: David Ortiz will retire at end of 2016 season"
...and sent the Twitter world into a frenzy.
David Ortiz or "Big Papi" as true fans call him, is a fan favorite on the Boston Red Sox, even though he may not appear in every game.
Despite his age (Ortiz is 39, turning 40 on November 18th), Ortiz is the designated hitter that the Red Sox and fans count on to hit the ball out of the park when necessary.
After news broke of the possible retirement New Englanders took to Twitter to express their reactions to the news.
