The New Hampshire Senate has passed a bill aimed at protecting consumers if the Affordable Care Act gets dismantled.

The bill, approved Wednesday by a vote of 22-1, would restore many provisions of state law that were already in place before they were superseded by the Obama administration's health care overhaul law. Supporters said it was important to ensure that people wouldn't be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions and that insurers would still be required to cover essential health benefits if the federal law gets struck down.

President Donald Trump's administration is asking a federal appeals court to strike down the entire health care law.

Republican Gov. Chris Sununu said he wants the law to remain in place and has made that clear to the administration.
