New Hampshire Town Clerk Charged With Disclosing Motor Vehicle Information

New Hampshire authorities say the Hancock town clerk is charged with violating the driver privacy act by giving out protected motor vehicle information.

The New Hampshire attorney general and the state police say Joan Joseph was arrested on Monday.

They say under the driver privacy act only certain people and entities, including municipal motor vehicle registration agents, have access to Division of Motor Vehicle's records.

Joseph is accused of obtaining the protected motor vehicle information, including a vehicle owner's name and address, for a friend who wanted to know to whom a certain registration plate had been assigned.

Joseph could not be reached for comment.
