New Murder Charge for Suspect in Baby's Death

34-year-old Miguel Fonseca-Colon pleaded not guilty at his arraignment

Prosecutors have filed a new murder charge against a Springfield, Massachusetts, man accused in the beating death of a 5-month-old baby.

The Republican newspaper reports that 34-year-old Miguel Fonseca-Colon pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Springfield District Court on Tuesday and was ordered held without bail.

The new charge comes just days after a judge dismissed four indictments against Fonseca-Colon after ruling that prosecutors failed to present statements in 2014 to a grand jury from the baby's mother and aunt.

Authorities said the baby, Jadamier Cintron, suffered 32 fractures and died from blunt force trauma.

Defense attorney David Hoose has challenged the prosecution's claim that the baby was killed during the short time his client was baby-sitting, and says other potential suspects were not considered.
