Newburyport High School Adopts Gender-Neutral Bathrooms

The school will designate several of the bathrooms as gender neutral

Newburyport High School in Massachusetts will designate several of the school's bathrooms as gender-neutral.

According to the Newburyport News, the decision was made following meetings between the principal, vice principal, superintendent, and students.

LGBT students at the school informed administrators the lack of gender-neutral bathrooms was becoming a challenge for some student.

Prior to the designation, students who did not feel comfortable using one specific bathroom would use the bathroom in the health office, which is located far from the majority of classrooms.

After the new designation, there will be two gender-neutral bathrooms, located at the far left corner of the third floor.

Members of the administration and the staff have been receiving training on how to implement the new bathrooms.

Even though the bathrooms will be labeled as gender-neutral, all students can use whichever bathrooms they prefer.
