    A fatal apartment fire is under investigation in Newport, Rhode Island.

    Fire officials say firefighters responded to Bridgeview Condos on Girard Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. on Friday for a report of a fire, where they found an apartment on fire.

    A 70-year-old man who lived there was found unresponsive inside the home. Paramedics took him to Newport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 5:30 a.m.

    WJAR reports an injured woman was also found inside the apartment. Her condition is currently unknown.

    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has warned not to eat any romaine lettuce after an e. coli outbreak has sickened over 50 people across 16 U.S. states. All lettuce is suspect unless it is clearly not from Arizona.

    The fire was contained the apartment, and local fire officials are working with the State Fire Marshal's office to determine the fire's cause.
