    A fatal apartment fire is under investigation in Newport, Rhode Island.

    Fire officials say firefighters responded to Bridgeview Condos on Girard Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. on Friday for a report of a fire, where they found an apartment on fire.

    A 70-year-old man who lived there was found unresponsive inside the home. Paramedics took him to Newport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 5:30 a.m.

    WJAR reports an injured woman was also found inside the apartment. Her condition is currently unknown.

    The fire was contained the apartment, and local fire officials are working with the State Fire Marshal's office to determine the fire's cause.
