Nightclub Fire Anniversary Service Rescheduled

Anniversary will now be marked on March 22

A service to mark the 12th anniversary of the Rhode Island nightclub fire that killed 100 people has been rescheduled.

Organizers say survivors as well as friends and family of the victims will now mark the anniversary at 1 p.m. on March 22 at Warwick City Hall.

Pyrotechnics for the band Great White set fire to flammable foam inside The Station nightclub in West Warwick on Feb. 20, 2003.

A ceremony was planned for closer to the anniversary date, but was postponed because of snow.

Members of The Station Fire Memorial Foundation plan to discuss the construction and fundraising efforts for a permanent memorial at the site of the fire.

Construction is expected to start this spring and finish in 2016.
