Game 3 Lineup Released: JD's In, Benintendi Out

With no DH, the Red Sox had to find a way to get their best power hitter in the lineup

The lineup for Game 3 of the World Series has been released, and Andrew Benintendi is not starting.

J.D. Martinez will play left in place of Benintendi.

Benintendi was one of the stars of Game 2, making an amazing leaping fifth inning catch that spawned countless internet memes.

But with the series moving to Los Angeles and no designated hitters in the lineup, the Red Sox needed to find a way to get Martinez and his 43 home runs in the lineup.

Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Martinez should be able to handle left field, especially since Jackie Bradley Jr. will be in center.

"Maybe Benny has the edge, but Jackie's defense, with J.D. in left field, it makes sense for us," Cora said.

The Sox skipper added that Benintendi gives the team a great option off the bench.

"I think he'll show up in the middle of the game. He's a good matchup for us, against a righty or a lefty," Cora said. "He can pinch run, he can come in and play defense."

The Red Sox lead the series 2-0. Game 2 is scheduled to start at 8:09 p.m. Friday.
