No Injuries Reported in RI Seaplane Crash

Federal authorities continue to investigate a weekend seaplane crash in Rhode Island.

Two people were in the single-engine plane when it crashed into Watchaug Pond at Burlingame State Park in Charlestown at about 5 p.m. Saturday. Neither was injured.

Local police and firefighters as well as state police and the state Department of Environmental Management Police responded to the park after a witness called in the crash.

Authorities say the pilot forgot to raise the landing gear after takeoff, causing the plane to nose dive and flip as it landed on the pond.

The pilot was identified as 26-year-old Bryan Hassett, of Connecticut. His passenger was the 16-year-old son of the plane's owner. His name wasn't released.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
