No Money From Sales of Cianci's Pasta Sauce Donated to Charity in Years

Longtime Cianci adviser Charles Mansolillo tells the AP that in the four years from 2009 to 2012, the sauce made a total of $3 in income

Former Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci's pasta sauce promises on its label that sales benefit Providence school children.

But The Associated Press has learned that in recent years, no money from sales of the Mayor's Own Marinara Sauce has been donated to Cianci's charity scholarship fund.

Longtime Cianci adviser Charles Mansolillo tells the AP that in the four years from 2009 to 2012, the sauce made a total of $3 in income.

Mansolillo acknowledges people think when they buy the sauce they are making a contribution. He said he would like to change the label.

Cianci says he has never made money on the sauce, only put money into it. He says it's good publicity for the scholarship fund, and for himself.
