Forecasters say that long bouts of strong winds across northern New England amounted to blizzard conditions on Christmas Day as some communities reported up to a foot of snow.
The National Weather Service said the central Maine town of New Gloucester saw 13 inches of snow Monday, while Weare, in southern N.H., reported 7.5 inches. Forecasters said snow and winds largely wrapped up Monday afternoon and evening.
The seacoast region of New Hampshire and broad swaths of southern, coastal and interior Maine saw up to 3 inches of snow an hour at the Monday storm's height. Wind gusts topped 30 miles per hour and led to law enforcement officials warning residents of whiteout conditions.
Maine and New Hampshire police reported several crashes amid whiteout conditions.
