Police: Reported Norton, Mass. Hostage Situation Was a Hoax

Police say a reported hostage situation in Norton, Massachusetts, turned out to be nothing more than a hoax and one person has been arrested.

Police responded to 274 E. Main St. after a female caller told police around 3 a.m. that she and her three children were being held in her apartment by a man with a gun.

Officers found the home barricaded. After negotiating with the caller, police gained access to the home and determined the caller was not inside.

Four occupants of the apartment, two women and two men, were questioned and released.

Several apartments in the building were evacuated during the incident. There were no injuries.

Police believe the call was ultimately a hoax and located the caller, Alicia Mitchell, 36, in Boston Wednesday afternoon, according to affiliate WJAR.

She was expected to be arraigned in court Thursday. It's unclear if she has a lawyer.
