Officials: Carbon Monoxide in School Traced to Boiler Room

A custodian and a contractor are hospitalized in stable condition after a carbon monoxide incident in the boiler room of a school in Newton, Massachusetts, according to the fire chief. 

The Newton Fire Department is on the scene at Franklin Elementary School at 125 Derby St. They had received reports of people trapped inside the building.

Fire crews found the janitor disoriented and anopther worker on the floor in the boiler room. They were given oxygen, removed from the school and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.

According to school officials, the incident appears to be the result of errors contractors made while installing a new boiler.

Classes have been cancelled for the day. 

The mayor believes they were doing routine maintenance on the boiler. No students were in the building at the time.
