A 6-year-old girl was transported to the hospital after being pulled from the water at Burr Pond State Park in Torrington.
Emergency dispatchers say crews were called to Burr Pond for a possible drowning around 6:30 p.m.
Torrington Fire Chief Gary Brunoli says when crews arrived the child was already out of the water and conscious and breathing.
Lifeguards were at the pond, but left at 6 p.m. and told swimmers to swim at their own risk, officials said.
The girl was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for evaluation and has been released from the hospital.
Witnesses said a bystander who was sitting on a picnic bench save the girl and gave her CPR while others called 911.
Burrville Volunteer fire, Torrington fire, Torrington police and Campion Ambulance all responded to the incident.
