Professor at Medical School Accused of Taking Photos of Woman in Campus Bathroom

A UMass Medical School assistant professor is facing charges after allegedly photographing a woman inside a bathroom stall.

46-year-old Dr. Marcus Cooper will be arraigned on Dec. 16 in connection with the Sept. 1 incident.

Police say the victim, a 26-year-old medical student, tried to confront Cooper after he allegedly took the photo.

Cooper claims it was a misunderstanding and he walked into the wrong bathroom while checking his email.

He has been placed on paid administrative leave. Police did not find photos on the phone, but have a search warrant to search for deleted pictures.

The school has released the following statement:

"UMass Medical School's Public Safety Office investigated an incident reported on Sept. 1 of an allegation of an unlawfully taken photo in a women's room on the medical school campus. The medical school responded quickly, appropriately and thoroughly to the reported incident, which resulted in charges being filed against the alleged perpetrator, a faculty member (who is also a member of UMass Memorial's Medical Group.) The faculty member remains off campus on paid administrative leave pending resolution of the charges."
