Officials: Medical Emergency Causes Fatal Crash

Authorities say they believe a Maine man suffered a medical emergency that caused him to cross the center line and collide head-on with another car in a fatal crash.

Sagadahoc County Sheriff's deputies say the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. Sunday on Route 196 in Topsham. Officials say 80-year-old Raymond Lamarche, of Bath, was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities say 76-year-old Barbara Johansen was in the car with Lamarche and was taken to Maine Medical Center to be treated for injuries. She is expected to live.

Phillip Pinkham, who was hit head-on, was trapped in his car. He was taken to Maine Med to be treated and authorities expect him to live.

The crash remains under investigation. The road was closed but has since reopened.
