Man’s Body Recovered From Muddy River in Boston

The body of a 33-year-old man was recovered from a Back Bay river on Wednesday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Officials responded to the Muddy River for a report of a man in the water. The caller told authorities the man had not resurfaced from the river for some time.

At least a dozen firefighters from the Boston Fire Department were on scene at the river near Charlesgate East and Commonwealth Avenue. Aerial footage from NBC10 Boston's Sky Ranger helicopter captured divers in the water and other personnel waiting nearby on land.

Divers could be seen pulling the man from the water around 7 a.m. State police said he was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

It is unclear how the man ended up in the river or if he suffered any injuries. State police said there is no evidence of assault or foul play.

The exact cause and manner of death will be determined by the chief medical examiner's office.

Authorities have not released the man's name. They said he is believed to have been living in a homeless encampment near the river.
