Officials Say Water is Safe at Local Beach

Rhode Island state health officials say the water is safe again for swimming at a beach in Middletown

Rhode Island state health officials say the water is safe again for swimming at a beach in Middletown.

The Rhode Island Department of Health said Friday that it recommends reopening Third Beach in Middletown for swimming.

The department said water tests showed bacteria levels have returned to within normal limits. It plans to continue monitoring the water quality through the summer.

Peabody's Beach in Middletown remains closed because of elevated bacteria counts.

Health officials will recommend reopening it to swimmers once tests indicate it is safe.
