Drivers Cautioned of Drifting Snow Dangers

Transportation officials are now warning the public of yet another potential danger following the first winter storm of 2018: drifting snow.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be cautious as heavy winds are causing snow to blow back onto roads and freeze.

"The public should continue to monitor weather conditions and exercise safe driving behavior if getting behind the wheel including reducing speed, giving space to other motorists, and minimizing distractions," MassDOT highway administrator Jonathan Gulliver said in a public statement.

The transportation agency cited multiple highway crashes Saturday morning due to slippery road conditions.

Highway Division crews are working to treat roads impacted by snow drifts.

The agency, along with state law enforcement officials, are also reminding drivers to clear all snow off of their cars before driving.
