Officials: Woman Trapped After Tree Falls on Car

Mary Keefe was driving west on Broadway at around 1 p.m. Tuesday when a tree fell on her sedan

Officials say a Saco, Maine, woman was trapped in her car and suffered minor injuries in South Portland after a giant maple tree fell on her car during a rainstorm.

South Portland Fire Chief Kevin Guimond tells The Portland Press Herald Mary Keefe was driving west on Broadway at around 1 p.m. Tuesday when a tree fell on her sedan.

Guimond says the tree crushed the roof and sent a tree limb through the windshield. The limb scraped Keefe's face and came within an inch of her head.

He says the impact of the crash caused the car to stop.

Crews cut off Keefe's sweatshirt to get her out of the car.
