Old Saybrook Police Arrest Attempted Robbery Suspect

Within minutes of an attempted armed robbery Thursday, Old Saybrook police had a suspect in custody.

Police say they responded for a reported robbery at Subway located at 535 Boston Post Road around 4:14 p.m. Employees reported the suspect entered the restaurant and attempted to rob it by showing a gun. When the employee did not comply, the suspect fled. A second employee tried to follow the suspect but lost sight of him. No one was injured.

Police searched the area and found the suspect near the Amtrak Railroad Station. They arrested the man at 4:30 p.m.

The suspect was identified as Thomas Einsmann, 25, of Old Saybrook. He was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, fifth-degree attempted larceny, second-degree breach of peace, carrying a dangerous weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is held on $100,000 bond and expected in Middlesex Superior Court on Friday.
