NPR's Tom Ashbrook hosts WBUR's On Point live at the Online News Association conference on Sept. 23, 2011, in Boston, Mass.

The host of one of National Public Radio's most successful programs has been dismissed from his job after claims that he created an "abusive work environment."

"On Point" host Tom Ashbrook, who hosted his show on WBUR at Boston University, will not be returning to the station after an investigation into complaints of harassment from 11 men and women who had worked on his show in the past.

Ashbrook was suspended in December while the investigation was held.

According to Boston University, an independent review confirmed that while Ashbrook created an abusive work environment, it did not find any incidents of sexual harassment. The University said that both independent firms that conducted the investigation spoke with about 60 people, including those who had made complaints.

Charlie Kravetz, the general manager for WBUR, wrote that the station "must do better in the future" in regards to creating a safe work environment.

Ashbrook has not made a statment about his dismissal.
