Over 1,000 Run 6.66-Mile in Costume For Devils Chase

An estimated 1,200 costumed runners gathered in Salem, Massachusetts Saturday morning to participate in the annual 6.66-miler Devils Chase.

The Devils Chase race is one of a multitude of events to take place in Salem the weekend before Halloween.

The city has ramped up security efforts in anticipation of growing crowds. At least 200 uniformed and plainclothes officers will be patrolling the city.

Event organizers, too, had to carefully plan around increased security measures.

"We had to work with the city, work with the police department" said race organizer Steve Dion. "There's about 50 volunteers on the course, as well as police officers ensuring [security]. The city is still open, it's crazy out there."
