PD: Alcohol a Factor in Fatal Maine Crash

Speed and driver inexperience were also cited as a factor in the acciden

Police say a Cape Elizabeth, Maine, high school student who died from injuries sustained in a weekend crash was driving illegally with a learner's permit and possibly attended a party beforehand.

The Portland Press Herald reports Capt. Brent Sinclair said Tuesday that police also believe alcohol was a factor when 17-year-old Cole Amorello failed to make a curve and crashed into some trees in Cape Elizabeth around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Amorello was pronounced dead on Monday.

Police say they know that a party where alcohol was served occurred not far from the crash scene and it's possible that Amorello attended. Sinclair said it could take weeks before investigators receive results from the teen's blood-alcohol test.

Speed and driver inexperience were also cited as a factor in the accident.
