PD: Car Stolen With 5-Year-Old Still Inside

Police say the missing car keys were found on the 18-year-old suspect

Police say a 5-year-old girl has been returned to her mother unharmed after the family's car was stolen in Providence, Rhode Island, with the child still inside.

WJAR-TV reports
the girl's mother left her inside a running car parked outside Espinal Restaurant on Plainfield Street around 8:20 p.m. Monday. The woman returned from picking up food to find both her car and daughter were missing.

About 10 minutes after a 911 was placed, Lt. Roger Aspinall says a patrol officer saw a girl matching the child's description walking hand-in-hand with a man near the intersection of Plainfield and Barrows streets.

Police say the missing car keys were found on the 18-year-old man. It was parked about a block away.

The man was taken into custody and the child was returned.
