Woman Loses Arm Off Spectacle Island, Transported to Boston Hospital

A woman was transported to a Boston hospital after losing an arm in a boating incident off the coast of Spectacle Island.

The patient was taken by a Boston Fire boat to Berth 10, a pier in the Boston Marine Industrial Park in the Seaport Distric. From there, Boston EMS transported her to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Officials confirm the woman is in serious condition after her arm was amputated below the shoulder.

The Coast Guard responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. when the woman was reported to have been severely hurt and to have fallen off of the 29-foot Naut Guilty.

Boston Police 33-year-old Benjamin Urbelis of Charlestown, the driver of the Naut Guilty, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence. He is set to be arraigned Monday.

Twelve other people had been on the boat with the victim. Five of them were in the water when the Coast Guard arrived. Responders helped those people out of the water and brought the boat back to the Constitution Marina.

No other injuries were reported.
