Patient Transported in 5-Alarm Fire in Spencer, Massachusetts

At least one patient was transported after a 5-alarm fire broke out on New Year's Eve in Spencer, Massachusetts, police confirmed Friday morning.

Fire crews responded to the fire at 244 Main St. just before 9:30 p.m. Minutes later, a fourth alarm was struck, with a fifth called for additional manpower after 10 p.m.

The family who lives at the home was not there at the time of the fire.

Part of Main Street, which runs along Route 9, was closed for several hours after the fire started.

Spencer Police say one or two patients were transported for smoke inhalation. It is unknown whether the injuries were to civilians or firefighters.
