Peabody Soldier Injured in Afghanistan Ambush

Hunter Josselyn, a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, was injured in an attack in Afghanistan

One military member died and two others – including a Peabody, Massachusetts native – were injured in Afghanistan after an American service unit was ambushed, according to Mayor Ted Bettencourt.

Hunter Josselyn, a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, suffered from two gunshot wounds and received extensive surgery as a result of the attack. He is expected to survive but faces a long road to recovery.

A firework show will be held at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5 at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School in honor of the wounded service member. A patriotic-themed concert will be performed before the show, at 7 p.m.

In an effort to show appreciation for Josselyn and other service members, Bettencourt is encouraging the community to wear red every Friday for the rest of the summer. Red stands for "Remember Everyone Deployed," Bettencourt said in a Facebook post.
