State Police ID Pedestrian Killed in Crash on I-95 in Old Saybrook

Connecticut State Police has identified the pedestrian who died after getting hit by a vehicle on Interstate 95 in Old Saybrook early Tuesday morning.

Troopers were called to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian on I-95 southbound between exits 70 and 69 shortly after midnight.

According to police, a man was driving southbound on I-95 in the right center lane when he came upon a pedestrian in the roadway directly in front of him. The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian and hit him.

The pedestrian, later identified as 51-year-old Richard Dupre Jr., of Killingworth, was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the vehicle and his passenger were not injured.

The crash closed down the southbound side of the highway between exits 70 and 69 for hours, but the highway has since fully reopened.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
