Pedestrian Killed in Route 3 Crash

Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Route 3 northbound in Weymouth, Massachusetts.

State police initially responded to a call just before 6 p.m. of a pedestrian walking on the exit 16 ramp toward Route 3 North.

While responding to the initial report, police received another call from a motorist reporting that he had struck a pedestrian between exits 15 and 16.

The driver of the vehicle, a 59-year-old man from Cranston, Rhode Island, was driving in the left lane of the highway when he struck the pedestrian, according to police.

Police still do not know why the pedestrian was walking along the highway. The age and identity of the victim have not been released.

The left lane around the crash site was closed as authorities worked to clear the scene. All lanes were reopened around 8:45 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
