Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Amtrak Train in East Greenwich, Rhode Island

Service on southbound side of tracks was temporarily halted during investigation

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train on Sunday afternoon in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

Amtrak officials said the incident happened at 2:35 p.m., near King Street, and involved a Northeast Regional train, which was traveling southbound from Boston to Washington, D.C.

Officials said none of the 378 passengers on board the train were injured.

According to officials, the train remained on the track for some time while the medical examiner and Amtrak officials could conduct an investigation.

The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
