Child Struck by Vehicle in West Newbury, Massachusetts

Authorities say the child was med-flighted

A child was med-flighted to a hospital after being struck by a car in West Newbury, Massachusetts, Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

According to West Newbury Police, a silver Toyota Corolla struck a boy on South Street around 4 p.m. Police would not say if the driver has been charged or if she was treated for injuries; she was not on the scene when NECN arrived.

The boy's grandfather told NECN his grandson is at a hospital in Boston with his parents and is expected to be okay.

Massachusetts State Police say they're assisting local law enforcement with investigating.

The focus of the investigation was on the hill at the end of South Street where West Newbury meets Byfield on the North Shore. State troopers were reconstructing the crash, slamming on the brakes several times.

The speed limit is posted at 25 mph on the narrow, curvy country road. There wasn't any visible damage on the car as it was towed away, finally reopening the road.
