    Deadly Revere Crash Kills 1 Child, Injures 5

    A 42-year-old woman from Boston lost control of her SUV and hit five pedestrians early Sunday evening, according to police. She has been arrested. (Published Monday, Dec. 10, 2018)

    One child has died and five other victims were injured in a pedestrian crash in Revere, officials say.

    According to Massachusetts State Police, the victims include an adult female and a 2-year-old child who suffered non life-threatening injuries, a 27-year-old woman who sustained minor injuries, a 2-month-old girl who sustained life-threatening injuries and a 5-year-old girl who died at the scene. The 27-year-old and the 2-month-old were sent to Massachusetts General Hospital. The relationships between the victims have not yet been confirmed by officials.

    A passenger in the vehicle, a 40-year-old female from East Boston, was also taken to Massachusetts General with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

    State Police say the driver, a 42-year-old Boston woman, has been arrested. She was operating a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox SUV. They also confirm that they have a drug recognition expert coming to the State Police-Revere Barracks to assess the operator for potential impairment by narcotics.

    The female driver has been arrested and could be facing charges.

    Oscar Funez lives right down the street from where the crash happened.

    "Oh wow. I see the car seat on the other side," he said, looking at the scene of the crash. "Wow, that's sad. Very sad."

    According to State Police, the crash occurred in the 1700 block of North Shore Drive, just across the street from the Shops at Suffolk Downs, at about 5 p.m. Sunday.

    A preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle involved, for reasons still under investigation, veered off the roadway and onto the grass median strip where it struck the pedestrians who were walking together. 

    Officials say all assets have been cleared from the crash scene and all lanes on both sides of Route 145 are now open.

    The crash remains under investigation.
