Man Stabbed Outside Popular Providence Coffee Shop

Daniel Nichols of Cranston being treated at Rhode Island Hospital for stab wounds to the chest

A 38-year-old man has been charged with felony assault in connection with a stabbing outside a well-known Providence coffee shop not far from Brown University.

Police say Osama Said of North Providence was arrested by Johnston police after the stabbing outside the Coffee Exchange on Wickenden Street on Wednesday morning.

Thirty-nine-year-old Daniel Nichols of Cranston was stabbed in the chest at about 11 a.m. He's being treated at Rhode Island Hospital. Police say the wound wasn't life-threatening.

Police haven't released details about what may have led to the stabbing.

It's not clear if Said has a lawyer.

Woody Allen used the Coffee Exchange as a set to film his latest movie earlier this month.
