Pete Frates Gets Red Sox World Series Ring

Ice bucket challenge co-founder Pete Frates shared photos of some new jewelry Friday: a 2018 championship ring from his beloved Boston Red Sox.

The photos were posted to Frates' Twitter feed, showing him wearing the bejewelled World Series ring with Frates' name engraved in the side while wearing Red Sox gear. Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy was with him in one of the photos.

Frates is the former Boston College baseball captain whose amyotrophic lateral sclerosis's disease diagnosis helped galvanize the challenge five years ago, which raised $220 million for research into the disease, and led him to become part of the Red Sox family.

The Red Sox championship rings each have nearly 200 diamonds, sapphires and rubies.
