Police: Alleged Drunk Driver Playing ‘Pokemon Go' Crashes Car in Vermont

Driver told police he had been distracted by his phone and the game

A man was arrested Sunday morning in Rutland, Vermont, after state police said he crashed his vehicle while allegedly driving drunk and playing the popular smartphone game 'Pokemon Go.'

Police responded to the crash on East Pittsford Road at the intersection of Colonial Drive at about 8 a.m. where the driver, Nicholas Coccia, 21, told officers he had been 'hunting Pokemon.'

Coccia told police he had been distracted by his phone and the game.

Following a sobriety test, police arrested Coccia for driving under the influence. He is due in Vermont Superior Court on August 8.
