Police: Bank Robbery Suspect Breaks Into Home, Kills Self

Suspect in Southington, Conn. robbery broke into home and slit his own throat, according to police

A suspect in a Southington, Connecticut, bank robbery and crash Tuesday morning has taken his life.

Police have not released his identity at this time.

Officers surrounded a house at the corner of Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike and Meriden Avenue during a police investigation into a robbery at the TD Bank at 921 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike in the Plantsville section of town that resulted in some school lockdowns.

The robber fled the bank in a car, crashed and there was a foot chase on Marion Avenue. The suspect broke into a house where there was no one home and ended up slitting his throat. The suspect was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The area was cordoned off by crime scene tape.

South End Elementary School and John F. Kennedy Middle School were locked down and Strong Elementary School went on external lockdown on Tuesday morning, according to automated calls received by parents in Southington. All lockdowns were lifted at 10:15 a.m. when police determined that there was no threat to the school or community, police said.
