Woman's Car Shot While She Drove Through Groveland

Police are investigating a shooting that shattered a woman's windows in Groveland, Massachusetts.

Shots were fired at a woman's car Tuesday afternoon as she drove through Groveland, Massachusetts, police said Wednesday.

The 69-year-old woman was driving on Main Street near Shanahan Field when her windows shattered. She said the passenger side window was cracked by a hole between 1.5 and 2 inches. That window then shattered completely, as did her driver's side window.

The broken glass left the woman with cuts and bruises.

Police say the woman kept driving to her West Newbury home before reporting the incident around 3:30 p.m. When police first investigated, they could not find anything in the car they thought could have caused the incident.

"She actually thought the car was struck by lightning, it was such a loud bang," Groveland Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen said.

But upon further inspection Wednesday, investigators found what they believe to be a 9mm round.

"Now that she knows that it's a bullet, she is very concerned, as are we," Gillen said.

Gillen says the incident is disturbing and an unusual occurrence in the town.

"This is a very frightening situation that is uncharacteristic for a town like Groveland," Gillen said earlier in a statement.
