Police: Disagreement Over Painting Job Led to Assault

The victim of an assault had been hired by the suspect to complete a paint job.

Police say a disagreement over a painting job led to a burglary and assault in Salem, New Hampshire.

On Saturday at 10:52 p.m., police responded to an address on Haverhill Road. Initial investigation revealed a suspect had entered through an unlocked door and confronted a male resident in the kitchen.

According to police, the suspect began assaulting the resident and a physical fight ensued. The suspect retrieved a knife that he had brought with him to the scene and slashed the victim, creating a six inch laceration on his abdomen.

The suspect fled into nearby woods as officers approached the scene. He was ultimately found and taken into custody without incident. Additionally, police recovered the knife used in the assault from the woods.

Police later identified the suspect as 38-year-old David Knoze of Greenland. He is charged with burglary, first degree assault, criminal threatening, and falsifying evidence. Knoze is being held until his arraignment on Monday.

Investigation yielded the incident initiated over a painting job that the victim had been hired to complete.
