Police Hunt for Suspects in String of Gloucester Break-ins

Surveillance video from inside the Causeway restaurant in Gloucester, Massachusetts, shows pieces of the back door being kicked in, then a burglar sticking his hand up to open the door to break in.

The popular seafood restaurant is one of many businesses in town hit by a small ring of burglars.

Luckily, the burglar got away with nothing after rifling through the cash register drawer.

Glen Asaro also says his tanning salon, Sunbanque Tanning on Prospect Street, was also burglarized. There, they also broke in through a back door.

This time, they got cash, and they left behind a crowbar.

"Apparently, all they were looking for was cash," said Asaro. "No damage left behind, luckily."

Lt. Michael Gossom says the Gloucester Police Department has recovered evidence and is getting it processed.

In all, police say about 10 businesses have been burglarized in town over the past two weeks, all under the cover of darkness when no one was around.

"They assume it's empty, but people work strange hours," said Gossom.

Police are telling people to lock up. Extra patrols will be out in the meantime.

"We don't certainly have any indication that they would be going after residences, but at that same thing, everyone should take the normal precautions of locking their doors," said Gossom.
