Police ID Boston University Student Hit, Killed by Train

Student identified as 17-year-old Xianhu Chen, of China

Police have released the name of the Boston University student who was struck and killed by a commuter train near campus last week.

Transit police on Wednesday identified the student as 17-year-old Xianhu Chen, of China.

The university released a statement offering "thoughts and prayers" to the student's family, friends and classmates. The university said no additional information would be released.

Chen's body was found on the MBTA's Worcester/Framingham line at about 12:15 a.m. Sept. 7 near the Yawkey Way stop.

No foul play is suspected. Police have called the death a "tragic accident."

In 2005, two Boston University students were killed by a commuter rail train as they walked on the tracks near Nickerson Field, about a mile from the Yawkey Way stop.
