A Vermont mother is accused of crashing her car while driving drunk with her children in the vehicle.
Police in St. Albans say 32-year-old Jessica Powers-Kelley has been served a citation to appear in court after being charged with DUI, negligent driving, reckless endangerment and cruelty to children.
Powers-Kelley was allegedly driving her Toyota RAV4 erratically on Barlow Street the afternoon of Oct. 15 when the car hit a tree, causing minor damage to the car, and continuing to drive.
When police arrived at the scene after callers reported the erratic driving and crash, they found the car at 4 Barlow St., and say Powers-Kelley was inside.
Powers-Kelley was screened for impairment and then arrested for driving under the influence, according to police.
When she was tested at the station, her blood alcohol concentration was .238 percent, police said.
Police say her children were left with a family member and Powers-Kelley was released to a sober adult.
