Driver, Clerk Hospitalized in Crash Outside Grocery Store in Waltham

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation

Police are investigating a crash outside of a grocery store in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The incident happened in the parking lot of the Hannaford’s on Russell Street on Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said a store clerk was collecting carriages when a shopper in a black vehicle somehow lost control and dragged him.

"There was a worker here who was putting away carts and when the car hit, it dragged them but they're OK," said shopper Priscilla Portugal.

The woman also struck multiple parked vehicles.

"She backed up into all three of the cars," said shopper Ali Sajjaed.

Waltham Deputy Fire Chief Roger Hebert said the driver seemed confused.

"She didn't say too much to us, she wasn't quite sure what had happened, but reports say she was trying to back up and the car just kept going," Hebert said.

In total, including the driver's vehicle, 6 cars were damaged, police said.

Both the clerk and driver were taken to an area hospital as a precautionary measure.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.

"They're very lucky considering what happened that everything is OK thankfully," said shopper Dawn Dagostino.
