Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Rhode Island

Police have released the name of a 53-year-old Coventry, Rhode Island, woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle, along with the name of the driver.

Police say Cheryl Sherman was killed Monday evening after being hit by a pick-up truck driven by 29-year-old Brian Blanchette of Coventry. Police say speed and alcohol don't appear to have been factors in the crash.

Police couldn't say whether Sherman had been crossing the street or walking along the side of Howard Avenue at the time of impact.

Officers administered CPR on Sherman until paramedics arrived, but she was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.

Blanchette remained on scene and is not facing any charges. The crash remains under investigation.
