Police: Maine Woman OK After She's Shot in the Head

Police say a man was arrested and a Maine woman escaped a serious injury after he accidentally shot her in the head over the weekend.

Ellsworth Police Chief Peter Bickmore says the .32-caliber revolver accidentally went off around 5 p.m. Saturday.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she was treated and released. Police say the bullet grazed the woman's head but didn't pierce her skull.

Police say her friend, Lawrence Romer, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

Bickmore says the shooting remains under investigation.
