Police: Man Stole Car at Test Drive, Crashed in Chase in Brockton, Mass.

A man from Brockton, Massachusetts, is facing serious charges after allegedly stealing a Hummer from a West Bridgewater dealership and crashing it into the woods after a police chase.

"I was kind of confused what was going on, and I just called Brockton Police and reported the car stolen," said AutoCenter manager Carlos Gomes.

Surveillance video appears to show 24-year-old Marinelson Sequeiro jumping into the car and taking off, leading police on a wild chase through the south part of Brockton. Sequiero eventually crashed the vehicle in nearby woods and was arrested.

Police say Sequiero also tried to ram a squad car with the Hummer during the escape.

In Brockton District Court, Sequiero pleaded not guilty to all charges. Attorneys for both sides expressed concern he may be mentally unfit to stand trial.

Sequiero has a history with schizophrenia and also had several psychiatric hospitalizations. The judge agreed to postpone his bail hearing until July 5. He will remain at Bridgewater State Hospital for further evaluation.

Sequeiro is charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, leaving the scene of property damage and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
