A Vermont police officer is facing a domestic abuse charge stemming from an incident that occurred on Tuesday.
Mark McComas, an officer with the Woodstock Police Department, is charged with domestic assault. He is being held on $2,500 bail at the Southern State Correctional Facility and was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, an individual reported to the Hartford, Vermont, Police Department that McComas had been involved in a domestic disturbance earlier that day. The matter was referred to state police for further investigation, as McComas is a former Hartford Police Department employee.
Further investigation of that report identified multiple domestic disturbances involving McComas. In addition to the dispute on Tuesday, he was also accused of causing physical pain to the victim during a dispute on Feb. 9. During this dispute, the victim was forced onto a bed and then violently pulled off the bed and onto the floor, causing them pain.
State police said the investigation remains active.
