Police Officer Pulls 3-Year-Old From the Ocean at Winthrop Beach

Police are looking for the parents of a 3-year-old girl who was pulled from the ocean by an alert police officer on Friday.

Winthrop police said Officer James Freeman, who was working a detail, observed a little girl, accompanied by a dog, wander across Winthrop Beach and into the ocean. The officer dashed across the sand, into the water, and pulled the child to safety.

A local family offered assistance and opened their home to the child, providing her with dry clothes and toys while police attempted to locate a family member.

The incident remains under investigation by Winthrop police and the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.
