6 Delivery Drivers Robbed in December in Worcester, Massachusetts

Since December 1, Worcester Police say six delivery driver robberies were reported.

Authorities are investigating the sixth armed robbery of a delivery driver since the start of December in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Police received a report Thursday night that a driver for Golden Pizza was robbed at gunpoint. According to officials, the driver said the incident happened on Forbes Street while he was out making a delivery in the area.

The driver told police he was then approached by two men. One of the men reportedly pulled out a gun and the other, the driver reported, punched him in the face. Additionally, the driver said they took his money and a set of keys.

Officials said the suspects were last seen heading toward Orne Street.

Since Dec. 4, two drivers from Wings Over Worcester were also robbed, as were employees of Domino's and Great Wall Chinese Restaurant.

"Really, it's just been a problem that's going on in the city from cab drivers, other delivery drivers at other restaurants," explained Wings Over Worcester General Manager Tim Pratt.

Drivers at Fresh Way have been robbed in the past, and if they have doubt about the safety of an order, they will sometimes send a second driver to keep lookout.

"If we get to a questionable area, it's the wisest thing to do - send two drivers in a separate car as a backup to watch the area," said driver Peter Sabatino.

Most delivery drivers don't carry too much cash, but many will say no matter how careful you are, the danger is a part of the job.
