‘Great Young Coach': UMass Boston Assistant Basketball Coach Shot, Killed in Dorchester

UMass Boston says they are saddened by the tragic news of Kendric Price's death

A man was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, and his family tells us he was in his first year as an assistant basketball coach at the University of Massachusetts - Boston.

Officers responded to the area of 12 Greenwood Street around 2:58 a.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a man with apparent gunshot wounds, who was declared dead at the scene.

Police identified the victim as Kendric Price, 32, of Dorchester and are treating the case as a homicide.

UMass - Boston confirmed Price's death in a statement Saturday night, saying, "Kendric was a great young coach who worked with our men’s basketball program. We are all saddened by the tragic news of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kendric’s family.”

Price, a former University of Michigan basketball player, is being remembered by loved ones as someone who was caring and joyful.

"He was an amazing dude," said a close family friend. "His smile alone. That's what I'm gonna miss the most, his smile."

The fatal shooting is under investigation. No suspect has been named by the Boston Police Department.
